Apprenticeship Frameworks

We have everything you need to get going

We have developed both SASE/SASW and Blueprint-compliant frameworks for all our business skills areas for England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

What is an 'Apprenticeship Framework'?

An apprenticeship framework is a definition of requirements for an apprenticeship programme. It is used by training providers, colleges, and employers to ensure that all apprenticeship programmes are delivered consistently and to agreed standards. Each framework includes details of the qualifications needed to be completed, the key skills targets, and any other requirements of the apprenticeship. Each framework also includes information on job roles, entry routes, length of the apprenticeships and career paths available upon completion.

England: SASE

We have pan-sector apprenticeship frameworks that are compliant with the Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England (SASE). The SASE sets out the minimum requirements that must be included in any recognised English apprenticeship framework.

All Skills CFA frameworks can be found at Apprenticeship Frameworks Online. Near the bottom of the page you will find a 'Skills CFA' checkbox to select.

Summary of SASE frameworks

From 31 May 2011, all new starts must use the SASE frameworks. These have replaced the Blueprint frameworks. For a copy of the Blueprint framework, please send a request to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

For Business & Administration and Customer Service there was a dual running period between 31 May 2011 and 24 June 2011.

Scotland: Modern Apprenticeships

We have pan-sector Modern Apprenticeship (MA) frameworks which are approved by the Modern Apprenticeship Group. They set out the minimum requirements which must be included in any recognised Scottish apprenticeship framework. Before delivering the frameworks, please ensure that your centre is registered and meets the criteria set out by us. For more information on registration and certification please contact us.

While learners can be registered on these frameworks immediately, all MA centres interested in delivering the revised 2011 Management frameworks must contact us first, as we are responsible for all candidate registrations and certifications.

Northern Ireland

Apprenticeships in Northern Ireland are overseen by ApprenticeshipsNI, but use the same qualifications as England and Wales. Information on the framework requirements within Northern Ireland can be found on their website.
