Stand out from the crowd with fresh ideas and innovation

Enterprise is a critical part of developing a successful, competitive and forward-thinking economy. Historically, the UK has been at the forefront of innovative ideas and breakthroughs, but to remain competitive in a global economy, enterprise skills need to be developed. These skills help learners get up and running – and help them keep moving forward too. Skills CFA and SFEDI (Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative) work to ensure Enterprise skills are well developed within the UK.

SFEDI works with us to maintain and develop National Occupational Standards (NOS) in Enterprise. The Enterprise standards are aimed at those starting, running or managing a business and they cover many key areas, including: how to win new business; how to keep and develop your business; people skills and the essentials of enterprise.

There are four suites of standards available.

Pre-enterprise - lays out what you need to know before starting a business

Understanding Enterprise - illustrates what it takes to run a small business

Enterprising Skills - covers enterprise skills

Business Enterprise - covers enterprise in a business environment

Vocational qualifications covering enterprise are available both within the UK and internationally; these include an NVQ/SVQ. Enterprise is also covered within a number of academic qualifications often tied into Management & Leadership qualifications.

Full details of all available qualifications in England, NI and Wales can be found at the Register of Regulated Qualifications. For qualifications in Scotland please visit the SQA.

QCF Units

QCF units have been developed by SFEDI to cover the full range of knowledge and skills needed to start and run a successful business.
